Preserving Stories of Service for Future Generations

Everyday we loose 1,500 Veterans.

How many  legacies must we continue to lose?
Veterans who share their story leave behind a lasting legacy.
Volunteers are the pillars of this project.

About The Veterans History Project

In 2000 the Veterans History Project was originated by the U.S. Congress (public law 106-380) when the Library of Congress was mandated to collect the stories of veterans and civilians who contributed to the liberties we all enjoy in the United States. A war record is not required.

The need to start collecting these narratives was realized as these memories became more precious with the passing of World War II veterans. A majority of interviews come from veteran reunions held locally. To discover interview locations search the LOC.  The BVTF summarizes the taped experiences on a FAX sent to the LOC for data entry on their web site - www.loc.gov/vets

It is vital for future generations to know about these individual efforts that made important contributions to protect the liberties we hold so dear and take for granted.

How You Can Help

The BVTF is seeking volunteers locally to help in the promotion and collection of these historical interviews about individual patriotic efforts for our country's behalf.

There is no government funding for this program, funds come from local donors so all contributions are graciously accepted. Not enough talented volunteers are forthcoming so this too is a real need.

Here is how you may participate in the Veterans History Project-
